Notes

It's always a special treat when the first band to play at a show is a really good act. It's almost always some band you've never heard of and you usually don't like them because they don't sound like what you came to see (the headliner).

In the case of Zombi, half of the latter statement is true. They don't sound anything like These Arms Are Snakes or Isis (the two other main acts on the bill) but that didn't stop their music from kicking all kinds of ass. People say that Daft Punk is the electronic version of pop music and that M83 is the electronic version of emo/indie rock. And you know, I'll say that Zombi is the electronic version of kickass rock. Granted, the drums are live (and fucking epic) but the rest is all moog/synth/midi controlled.

The best way to sum up Zombi's tunes is this: You know those 80s action movies about drug smuggling in the inner city and renegade cops? Think of the soundtrack to those movies. That half time synth that pounds while the lone wolf cop runs to the "drug factory" to take on an army of no-good'nicks. This is what Zombi captures. That sound. It's so cool.
