Notes

Here is the second volume of my Japanese Noise series. Destruction Chaos was (is?) and ongoing series of noise gigs. I think they are up to 18 or so by now. First up: Mothra, who are a kind of Test Department/Einsturzende Neubaten inspired band with lots of clanky metal percussion. Fun to see, but not mind blowing, I think. Next, Gomidama. Someone told me the band Garidama is a grindcore group, but I don’t know anything about grindcore so I’ll have to take their word for it. In this case, with the addition of Painjerk on electronics, they called themselves Gomidama, a play on Painjerk’s real name and I suspect a pun as well, since gomi means garbage. Then a remarkably short and quiet two songs by Jojo Hiroshige of Hijokaidan. I can’t remember, but it almost seems like I missed some of his set or something, or perhaps he just wasn’t into it that night. Lastly, the mighty Haino with an ear-bleeding set. I always liked seeing Haino in this type of gig: he always comes on last and he is very competitive, so no matter what happened before, you can be sure no one is going to upstage him. This is a delightfully brutal guitar/electronics set.
