Notes

As a thanks to creatured and foxtrotter for the recent AoF@Detroit '83 set, here's a neat companion show taped by the legend that is Electric... (Thank him, seriously)

This was an open air show, but you'd never know to listen, it's got a really nice clean sound, particularly once the band get going and the soundman gets his shit together. AoF at this point had not long recorded what turned out to be their last record, 'In This Life', which is a little more 'emo' I guess than their earlier material, mainly I think, due to Vic Bondi's songwriting which seemed more and more influenced by Bob Mould, who had been helping Bondi learn to play. (Bondi helped Bob with his lyrics, they had a close relationship, with Mould taking up production duties for AoF on more than one occasion). They still fly along at
top speed most of the time, for all you hardcore purists, but the triple guitar attack gave the material an added depth and it became a wall of melodic sound rather than a damn good thrash.

I don't know what happened to Virus X and the rest of the band, Bondi released an acoustic solo LP on Wishingwell in '86 or '87 before forming the sublime Jones Very to critical but not commercial acclaim, passionate post-hardcore, the scarce debut 'Words and Days' is well worth the time and effort involved in tracking down a copy... After Jones Very, Bondi formed another 'power-trio' in the form of Alloy, more straightforward in approach that Jones Very, but still thick with Bondi's trademark sound.
