The first of Note's series focussing on the work of Irish pianist Paul G. Smyth sees him paired with one of the most significant figures in the history of free jazz. Brötzmann's unique and uncompromising style hasn't waned one bit since 1968's towering 'Machine Gun' record, and Note are delighted that his return to Ireland will kick off this exciting and life-affirming series.

For this performance no instruments were running through the PA so Brotzmanns reeds tend to dominate the sound over the piano. Despite that it's a really nice hall acoustics wise so the recording is pretty good.
